Electrocardiograph (EKG) Basic Course

This short introductory course reviews the main features of EKG tracings. A method for analyzing EKG's is also presented. This method includes assessment of rhythm, calculating heart rate, observing P-wave forms, measurement of EKG intervals and segments and the evaluation of other relevant waves. 

An EKG provides two major kinds of information. First, by measuring time intervals on the EKG, health care professionals can determine how long the electrical wave takes to pass through a persons heart. Finding out how long a wave takes to travel from one part of the heart to the next shows if the electrical activity is normal or slow, fast or irregular. Second, by measuring the amount of electrical activity passing through the heart muscle, a cardiologist may be able to find out if parts of the heart are damaged, too large or are overworked. This is also helpful for healthcare professionals like RN's.

The EMETS Medical Director and the Bureau of EMS Continuing Educational credits for the following CEU's have approved this program. Provider manual is not included. Participants must order their books at least two weeks prior to attending the course to include calipers. Both are necessary and can be purchased from Twin City Care.
